Here is one of the finest quality antique cameo brooches that we have ever had the pleasure of selling and is a true collectors piece and is absolutely superb in its quality and craftsmanship.
Magnificently made in the mid-19th century around 1850, this stunning antique cameo is made up of three natural red coral cameos each of an individual woman's head in profile, and all expertly hand carved.
The attention to detail is what magnificent and what separates a good quality cameo from a superb quality one, and these are just magnificent to admire up close.
Coral was rarely used in antique cameos with shell being the most common from of material, and then hard stones such as agate being used, so finding an antique cameo brooch with coral is wonderful in its own right let alone having three coral cameos and then the coral suspended from the bottom.
The coral used here has not been dyes or stained as is very common with coral being used today, and this coral is sometimes referred to as ox blood thanks to its rich deep natural red colour.
The cameo mount itself is made in 15ct gold and has the most divine detail all around it, and then to make this spectacular antique cameo brooch shine even more, it is set with a total of 12 diamonds that totals 0.32 carats in weight and add just the right amount of sparkle to make this stunning piece stand out even more.
From left to right the brooch measures 5.4cm across and from the top to the bottom it measures 6.5cm making this antique cameo brooch truly stand out on any outfit.
Turning the brooch over reveals two locket compartments that would have been used for a lock of hair and today would be perfect for two photos to be put inside making this brooch even more personal and special.
This antique cameo is one of the finest around and one for anyone who truly appreciates fine quality cameos and antique jewellery.
