A witches heart is one where the tail or bottom part of the heart bends to one side and goes as far back as the 15th Century and was used to ward off evil spirits, however in the romantic Victorian period of the 1800's came to be seen as a betrothal or marriage piece of jewellery.
And this one here is made even more special by being made with two entwined witches hearts symbolising an eternal love and just as important this is set with diamonds.
Where many are set with garnets, to find one with diamonds is really quite special and rare. Hand made in 15ct gold and silver during the Victorian era, this witches heart brooch dates from the 1860's and also is set with a diamond encrusted bow on top. Silver was used prior to the early 1900's as white gold was not yet invented and platinum was not used in jewellery at this time either.
In total there are 49 mine cut diamonds that total 1.22 carats and really makes this brooch sparkle in the light.
From left to right the brooch measures 21mm across by 24mm making it the perfect size to accentuate any outfit and be worn with love every single time.
