Antique engagement rings have so much unique charm ans character to them. Set with antique cut diamonds such as the European cut diamond or the mine cut diamond, these cuts have surged in popularity in recent years. Cut entirely by hand, both the mine cut diamond and the European cut diamond have fifty eight facets like the round modern brilliant cut diamond. The difference between them all is the angles. Often the mine cut diamonds are called "cushion cut" diamonds as they somewhat resemble a cushion shape. First seen in the start of the 1700's, these remained right up until the advent of the European cut diamond around the 1850's.
