The term “Fede†comes from the Italian verse “mani in fede† translating to "hands joined in faith" and date back as far as Roman times, and here we have a very rare and equally as beautiful antique Fede ring.
Often given as a betrothal ring, this amazing Fede ring was made in 9ct rose gold and dates from the 1860’s.
Not only does each side open and revealing the heart that the two hands will join over, but there is also the hair that has been beautifully woven inside the inner band.  This is not a mourning ring as many people assume when they see hair in antique jewellery, as especially during Victorian times, making jewellery with hair became very popular and at one stage during the mid-1800’s hair became more expensive than sterling silver per ounce.
The hair in this ring would have likely have been his hair as this would have been a woman’s ring. Due to the hair, this ring cannot be resized and is therefore a “Cinderella’s ring†in that it must fit the new owner. It is a size N ½ which is quite a standard finger size so if you love this ring and it fits, grab it before its gone!
The quality of craftsmanship and history of this Fede ring combine together to make this one of the most special and rarest antique rings around and one that will always be such an incredible talking point.
