Made in 18ct yellow gold in the Edwardian time in London in 1903, this cameo is made of sardonyx which is a naturally layered material from the quartz family.
Being layered is a natural choice for many hardstone cameos for the obvious reason that as the carver goes into the material, different colours are found at different depths to allow for a wonderful colour contrast.

Surrounded by 20 natural seed pearls, the cameo with the pearl border measures 19.7mm by 10mm wide.
