Today Australia is famous for being the country that produces the best quality opals in the world, however before opals were discovered in Australia, other countries produced them including Hungary which is where these opals came from in this truly wonderful antique opal, diamond and emerald ring dating from the early 19th Century.
Hand made in 18ct yellow gold and silver, silver was used to set the diamonds into to retain the white of the diamonds, and was a common practice as white gold was not invented until the early 1900’s which was around the same time that platinum started to be used in jewellery.
This ring was made around 1810 and is still in fabulous condition and is set with 4 delightful and romantic heart shaped solid opals surrounded by 20 rose cut diamonds. In the centre is a green emerald and all of this is set on a very attractive split style band making this ring look even more elegant on the finger.
The top of the ring measures 13.7mm across and sitting nice and flat makes it so easy to wear all the time.
This antique opal ring is amazing to consider not only the opals, diamonds and the emerald, but the age of the ring is a real testament to the quality and craftsmanship of jewellery from over 200 years ago that still looks so amazing.
