Antique pietra dura brooch with a locket on the reverse side

$0.00

Pietra dura originated during Roman times and is the term given for the inlay technique of using cut and fitted, highly-polished coloured stones to create images in solid walls and floors, furniture as well as jewellery, resulting in some truly spectacular pieces such as this antique pietra dura brooch that also doubles as a locket.

Dating from the 1880’s, the mount is just as beautiful and is made in 18 carat yellow gold. With a gorgeous rich yellow colour that compliments the design and colours of the pietra dura, the brooch measures 46.4mm across by 37.6mm and is destined to look perfect on any outfit day or night.

With a magnificent floral design in the centre that has shades of pinks and soft blue, these colours stand out even more against the black and is a true testament to the quality of jewellery that was made well over a century ago.

With a locket compartment on the reverse side, this is a superb pietra dura brooch that will always be admired.
