Brief history on repeater carriage clocks:
A repeater carriage clock is one where at the press of a button, the time is sounded out. So by pressing the button at the top, the clock will strike the hours allowing you to know what the time is. As well as this, they will also independently strike on the hour what time it is ie seven strikes for 7 o'clock as well as a single strike on the half hour.
