And in this antique diamond ring, the entire seventeen diamonds are all rose cut diamonds. Made in a elegant lozenge shape that really accentuates the finger, there are three rose cut diamonds in the centre and a further fourteen around the outside, and the diamonds total 0.25 carats in weight.
Measuring 6.7mm wide by 17.3mm in length, the ring was made in the late 1800's in 18ct gold and silver. Silver was used on the top as it was known that surrounding a diamond in yellow gold will tint the diamonds yellow, and as white gold was not yet invented and platinum would not be used in jewellery until the early 1900's, sterling silver was used.
This antique diamond ring has such a wonderful charm and character all of its own and will always be treasured and admired.

History of the rose cut diamond.
The rose cut diamond was one of the first real attempts to polish and cut a diamond to maximise its brilliance and were used as far back as the 16th century.
With a flat base and pointed top somewhat akin to a pyramid, the rose cut diamond will often be seen in antique jewellery all the way to some 1920's Art Deco jewellery and in recent years, modern diamond engagement rings are seeing a resurgence in antique cut diamonds such as the rose cut diamond.
