Antique silver box made by André Delpy with a hand painted scene
$0.00
Here is such an attractive antique silver box made by André Delpy with a hand painted scene painted by Popet that was made in France in the late 1800’s and gets more and more beautiful the closer you view it.
Made in sterling silver with a beautiful engraved design around the border of the painting as well as on the sides, the box measures 65.5mm by 50.4mm by 14.4mm and has a wonderful feel and heft when you hold it in your hands. Inside it has been gilded resulting in a lovely “glow” emanating from it when you open the lid.
And looking from the top, that gorgeous hand painted scene on the top is just so delightful. With one cherub playing an angel harp and the other cymbals, in the centre is a very elegant and graceful lady dancing to their music. Painted on ivory which was the traditional and common material for miniature paintings on this era, it is signed on the lower right “Poppet”.
Whether you put small items or cards inside, or simply leave it empty there is no doubt that you will always admire this every time you look at it.
