Antique sterling silver, rose and green gold locket made in 1882

$0.00

Absolutely divine, this antique sterling silver, rose and green gold locket made in 1882 will always capture the eye and be made even more personal once photos of loved ones are placed inside making this such a special and personal locket.

Made in the Victorian era, the sterling silver locket not only has a very beautiful design on the front, but aspects of it are highlighted with both yellow and rose gold. While most of us are aware with rose, white and yellow gold, to produce white and rose – as well as green gold – other metals are alloyed with the gold while it is molten resulting in different colours. Rose gold is made by primarily adding copper to the gold when being alloyed resulting in the lovely warm tone to it, and today green gold is made by adding silver to the gold, however the green colour is more a soft green-yellow colour. Years ago however when this locket was made, cadmium was added resulting in a stronger colour. While never a strong green such as yellow or white gold, the tone of green in antique pieces is more pronounced and used here highlights the leaves in the floral design on the front.

With the locket measuring a nice large 37.5m across by 41.5mm or 56mm to the top of the bail for the chain to pass through, this is a locket that is so easy and comfortable to wear all the time, day or night.
