Tortoiseshell has been used for centuries in jewellery and although thankfully now a protected species, there are still some very lovely and attractive examples of antique tortoiseshell jewellery such as this tortoiseshell necklace and locket.
Dating from the later part of the 1800's, the tortoiseshell necklace measures 55cm in length and suspended at the centre is the most beautiful oval tortoiseshell locket.
The locket measures 3.8cm wide by 4.5cm or 6.2cm to the top where it attaches to the necklace part and with or without a photo inside still represents a very beautiful and elegant antique necklace.
This really is a throwback to yesteryear and the chocolate brown colours from the tortoiseshell are just so lovely to admire and the feel of this necklace is so tactile.
