Here is a truly spectacular Art Deco rock crystal box set with rubies and diamonds that exemplifies the quality and craftsmanship that is associated with this wonderful era.
Made in the 1920’s, the box measures 87mm by 57mm by 13mm and feels amazing to hold in the palm of your hand with a wonderful weight and tactile feel to it. Rock crystal has been used for carvings for centuries, and this would have no doubt been hand carved in Idar-Oberstein in Germany. For centuries Idar-Oberstein was known as the best place in the world for cutting agate that was sourced both locally as well as from Brazil.
Then in the centre is that stunning design set with forty one natural rubies and surrounded by an elegant border of diamonds. And then set amongst the engraved section are more diamonds that have been so expertly set. In total there are sixty one diamonds and set into the clasp to open the case there is a cabochon cut sapphire.
Joining the two halves together and again expertly hand engraved, this is made with platinum which showcases that this is a piece of exceptional quality and is of the highest standard.
Spectacular from every angle, this Art Deco box is up there with the best of the best.
