The Art Deco period of the 1920’s produced some truly spectacular jewellery also with the creation of some new styles and designs including the negligee necklace that came into fashion during this time.
A negligee pendant is one that has two suspended drops often of different lengths as can be seen here in this genuine Art Deco negligee pendant.
Hand made in 18ct yellow gold and platinum, one drop is set with a natural pearl and the other with a facetted pink topaz. The natural pearl measures 12.4mm by 5.4mm and is so wonderful that it is a natural pearl and not a cultured pearl and the pink topaz measures 1.75 carats. Above the pearl is set with 5 diamonds and above the topaz 6 diamonds and the diamonds total 0.15 carats and add a delightful amount of sparkle.
The length from the bottom of the pearl to where it is attached to the oval setting measures 3.5cm and the topaz 3.8cm. All the diamonds are millgrain set which was typical of the jewellery work of the 1920’s Art Deco era jewellers which is that fine crimping along the edge of the settings where the diamonds are.
Laid out flat from end to end this Art Deco negligee measures 44cm and is the perfect length to wear and always be admired.
Art Deco jewellery is always so distinct, and this is a superb example of the elegance and style of an Art Deco gemstone set negligee piece that is destined to always be admired.
