Here is a spectacular Art Deco synthetic ruby and diamond locket made in Russia in the 1920’s that has the aesthetics that will make it always be admired every time that it is worn.
Made in 14 carat yellow gold in Russia during the fabulous Art Deco era, the locket measures 35.8mm across by 45.5mm to the top of the bail for the chain and is the perfect size to wear all the time. Able to hold two photos inside, there is nothing as personal as a photo locket and this one is so unique and special and looks as beautiful today as when it was made.
Set with a 0.18 carat semi-modern cut diamond in the centre and four rose cut diamonds on each corner, that total 0.04 carats, these corner diamonds are set into the most elegant triangular setting which exemplify the beauty and elegance of Art Deco jewellery.
And then there are the four vibrant synthetic rubies that total 0.40 carats that stand out so well against the rich yellow of the gold.
Synthetic rubies and sapphires were first invented in the early part of the 1900’s and when they were set into jewellery of the time, they were embraced by jewellers and the public alike as for the jewellers they could now have access to evenly matched fancy cut stones and the public as these were all new and an exciting leap forward in technology at the time. These synthetic rubies in this locket are all completely original to the locket and show how highly regarded they were looked upon.
