Art Nouveau jewellery lasted from the later part of the 1800's until the start of World War One in 1914 and is so characteristic with its sensual lines and forms inspired by nature, and here is a magnificent example of an antique Art Nouveau photo locket.
The design of this locket is so elegant with a flower design in the centre of the locket. Then to make this sterling silver locket even more special, it is highlighted with rose and the rare green gold.
With the rose gold used for the flower itself, the green gold is used for the leaves. Green gold was not used for very long as to produce it, jewellers of this time period used cadmium to make it which is toxic while the gold is being melted and alloyed.
After cooling down it is perfectly safe to handle, it is just while the fumes are in the air that it was dangerous. Green gold is so unique and special and really makes this locket spectacular.
Able to hold two photos, the locket measures 25mm across by 31.2mm or 46mm when the top bail is up, which is large enough for most chains to easily pass through.
Art Nouveau jewellery is so special and unique and this locket is certainly no exception.
