Here is a very beautiful and very elegant antique ruby and diamond pendant from the Edwardian era that was all hand made in 18ct yellow gold and platinum.
Set with 5 rubies and 12 diamonds, it is not only the gemstones that makes this pendant such an attractive piece as it is also the wonderful spiral design that is so captivating.
The 5 rubies total 0.35 carats and are all matched perfectly for colour and then set with 12 diamonds to add sparkle and these total 0.31 carats.
The diamonds are not simply on the pendant as they also go all the way around the top bail where the chain goes through for that extra charm and sparkle which shows what a fine quality antique pendant this is.
All the rubies and diamonds are milgrain set which is where you get that fine "crimping" along the side of the setting which was typical work of the jewellers of this period and really finishes the pendant so well.
All hand made in 18ct and platinum, this was a popular combination for the jewellers of this time leading up to the Art Deco period as well, as the pure white of the platinum matches well with the diamonds and solders so well to the 18ct gold.
From left to right the pendant measures 25mm across as it does in height, or up to 36mm including the top bail.
This antique pendant combines the earlier Victorian influence as well as the Belle Epoch style and is such an easy pendant to wear all the time.
The design, hand made setting and use of both rubies and diamonds, all goes to create a truly spectacular antique ruby and diamond pendant that will be treasured for a lifetime.
