Whitby jet is a lovely dense black colour and is actually the fossilized remains of a tree. It has been used in jewellery as early as 10,000 BC and even though it was also popular in Roman times, it was the Victorian era of the 1800’s when it was most popular.
These beautiful antique Whitby jet earrings were made in the 1870’s and measure an elegant 65.7mm in length making them stand out day or night, and are so beautifully hand carved from top to bottom.
Fitted on elegant shepherd hooks, these earrings are as beautiful today as when they were made all those years ago.
