Product Information
Product code: ES8502cc Categories: Sold Items, Sold Jewellery.Shakudo jewellery has become increasingly popular and sought after in recent years, and here is an extremely rare antique Japanese shakudo bangle made in the 19th Century that is unlike anything that we have ever had.
To begin with, Shakudo is an alloy of gold and copper, having around 4 to 10% gold and 90 to 96% copper, and was originally designed for swords such as the katana, and after the end of the samurai class grew obsolete, the shakudo masters turned their attention to jewellery.
This amazing bangle weighs a touch over an incredible 150 grams and measures 37.5mm wide, and feels truly amazing and unlike anything that you could imagine as well as being so incredibly tactile to the touch. As you roll your fingers across the bangle, it will take you to another place and time and this will certainly continue to be such a wonderful talking point every time that it is worn.
The design and artwork that adorns the bangle will truly capture the eye from near or far, and the time that would have gone into making this bangle would have been immense. With scenes of warriors, temples and monks, the reverse side is hand engraved in a very old Kanji (Japanese letters) with the lower part saying “Tokyo”. Although it is also engraved “1950” this bangle was made much earlier in the 1860’s.
With a ingenious clasp design, being hinged will allow this to sit nice and close to the wrist where it will always be admired and commented on.
This bangle is truly like no other and is just amazing from every single angle.
