Gents antique sardonyx signet ring made in 1889

Made in such an elegant and timeless design, this gents antique sardonyx signet ring made in 1889 sits perfectly on the finger and has such a smooth tactile feel to it.

Made in 15 carat rose gold, the colour of the gold alone looks so beautiful against the skin and in the centre it is set with an oval piece of sardonyx. Coming from the quartz family, sardonyx was a popular gemstone to put in signet rings as not only is it a durable stone, but if one chooses to, it can be engraved with initials or a family intaglio.

Measuring 13.6mm by 14.1mm across, this is such a wonderful example of a genuine antique ring that is now 130 years old, yet still not only in superb condition, but looks incredible as well.

Description

Gents antique sardonyx signet ring made in 1889

Signet rings go as far back to ancient Egypt over 4,000 years ago, and use of the term “signet” or “seal”, is from the Latin “sigillum” (seal), diminutive of signum (sign) and dates back at least to the second half of the thirteenth century. This antique signet ring is set hand engraved on the sides.
