Rolex Cellini reference 3810 with the diamond bezel and Sigma dial

The Rolex Cellini is quite different to the more common Rolex Oyster range in that it is more of a dress watch and here is a very special and beautiful vintage Rolex Cellini in 18 carat gold.

Fitted with a diamond bezel that has 38 diamonds that total 0.76 carats, this bezel highlights beautifully the gorgeous dial. The colour of the dial has an amazing copper colour to it that reflects the light so well, and combined with the diamonds around the bezel, there is no doubt that this watch will always get the attention that it rightly deserves.

And making this dial even more special is the fact that it is a Sigma dial. When looking at the bottom of this dial, on each side of the word "Swiss", there is the Greek letter, Sigma which can be seen here – Ó. What this subtle yet important mark designates, is that the hands and index markers are in solid gold. Used by approximately seven watch companies in Switzerland from 1970, it was among its main reason to signify when gold parts were on the dial to subsequently add to both the financial and intrinsic value of a watch.

Measuring 28mm across, this makes it such an elegant and practical size for a ladies wrist, and from end to end the watch measures 18cm in length.

Inside it is powered by the highly reliable 19 jewelled manual wind Rolex calibre 1600 that not only keeps perfect time, but also comes with Rolex service papers. Along with its service papers, it also comes with its original papers showing that it was sold in 1976.

With the diamonds capturing the light, the gorgeous colour of the dial to the solid gold band, this is a magnificent ladies Rolex watch that will always be worn with pride.

A brief history on the sigma dials:

The history behind sigma dials is a very interesting one which has now made watches with these dials highly sought after. The sigma dial is discreetly marked with the Greek letter sigma (Ó) on each end of the T SWISS T or SWISS at the bottom of the dial. From 1970, watch companies who were members of the Association pour la Promotion Industrielle de Or (APRIOR), such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, IWC, Omega and Vacheron & Constantin to name a few, produced dials with the sigma letter to notify that the hands and index markers are made in gold. This was used at a time when the Japanese "quartz revolution" started coming in, and sigma dials were produced for one main reason - to notify when gold parts were used on a watch, including the dial to subsequently add to both the financial and intrinsic value of a watch. An important and quite interesting point to note, is that the sigma dials can be found on watches that are made all in stainless steel ie case, band and bezel, but with a sigma dial, not the index markers and hands.

A brief history on the Rolex Cellini:

The Rolex Cellini was named after the famous Italian goldsmith and sculptor, Benvenuto Cellini (1500-1571). An artist during the Renaissance, he was one of the most important artists of his time.

The Rolex Cellini was a classic alternative to the sporty Rolex Oyster collection. Rolex launched a number of Cellini models throughout the course of its history, and has remained its classically styled dress watch.
