Here is a genuine antique pocket watch that was made 127 years ago and is in such incredible condition that we first thought that this was a reproduction pocket watch.
Not only is the condition of the case outstanding, this is a demi-hunter pocket watch which has remained the most popular and sought after style of antique pocket watch that we deal in and here is an antique demi-hunter pocket watch that is as good as it gets.
A demi-hunter pocket watch is one that has the protection of a full hunter pocket watch i.e. one with a front cover with the ease to read the time like an open face pocket watch i.e. one without a cover.
Not only that it has the double spade hands which differentiates the hour hand from the minute hand when the case is closed and shows the Roman numerals in blue enamel.
The case is just one of the reasons why this is such an incredible pocket watch. Made in sterling silver in 1888, the back and front have the traditional engine turned design. This alone is not that extraordinary. What is extraordinary is the condition of it well after 120 years. The engine turning on both the front and back cover is still so sharp and crisp and is without a doubt one of the best examples that we have seen for a long while.
Measuring 51mm across by 70mm from the bottom to the top of the bow, this is pocket watch has a wonderful heft to it and feels just perfect in the hand.
Then to make this even more special, this pocket watch was retailed in Sydney by the jewellery and watchmaking company of TT Jones and Sons. T.T Jones and Sons were a highly regarded business that operated from 1853 until 1926, so not only is this a wonderful pocket watch but it also has the early Australian history attached.
Inside is an English Rotherhams movement that has just come back from our watchmaker after undergoing a full service and now runs perfectly and comes with our 12 month warranty and it too is signed TT Jones and Sons.
The movement is a crown wind and pin set style which means the movement is wound via the crown and the time set by pressing in the small button near the 4 o'clock and then turning the crown to move the hands.
We simply adore this pocket watch for it being a demi-hunter, for its immaculate condition and for the Australian history and this really is as good as it gets.
