Here are a pair of truly spectacular antique earrings dating from the Victorian era and dating from around 1860.
These antique hair earrings should not be confused with mourning jewellery as hair jewellery from this era was very common and indeed a culture arose around this style of jewellery.
Mothers and daughters would even sit around tables weaving the hair and then have the pieces sent off often to London to have the 18ct gold fittings made especially for the ends.
The earrings measure 6.5cm in length by 3.8cm across and all the fittings including the hooks are made in 18ct yellow gold.
It is understandable that some people would think of hair jewellery as somewhat morbid, however it must be remembered that these earrings are not mourning jewellery and truly are a window into the past displaying what could be made from an era gone by.
To consider that these were made 150 years ago and still in wonderful condition, these are for a real lover of antique earrings.
