With such a beautiful design on the front, this sterling silver antique locket dates from the 1890's and has a wonderful floral design on the front that is highlighted with green gold.
Gold can be alloyed with other metals such as copper to produce rose gold, and while not common today, modern green gold is made it is a very soft green-yellow colour, however years ago it was made by adding cadmium to the alloy resulting in a stronger colour. While never a strong green such as yellow or white gold, the tone of green in antique pieces is more pronounced especially when set against sterling silver as can be seen here on the front to emphasise the leaf design.
This subtle colour comes through so lovely and adds such a wonderful unique aspect that makes it so much more unique than any modern that is just mass produced today.
With a gorgeous border as well as a design running vertically down the front, the locket measures 36.5mm across by 44.8mm or 57.2mm to the top of the bail.
Able to hold two photos inside, this is such a beautiful example of a genuine antique locket that will always be admired and loved.
