Victorian era antique seal

$1,500.00

Seals have been used for centuries as a way to prevent someone from tampering with a letter by quite literally sealing the envelope in wax and pressing the seal in which would break once the letter is opened, and today antique seals make the most wonderful and unique pendants that look so beautiful around the neck such as this one here.

Made in 9 carat rose gold in the Victorian era of the 1870’s, the base of the seal measures 2cm by 2.2cm and stands 2.7cm tall making it the perfect size to put on a chain and wear with pride.

The base is set with chalcedony which is from the quartz family which was historically used to carve seals into along with other materials such as bloodstone or carnelian – again all in the quartz family, thanks in part to its colour but most importantly its hardness and durability over the centuries.

With a carving that was done entirely by hand of a Roman man, this is such a wonderful seal that will always look and sit so well around the neck.
