Whitby Jet is a fossilized material of a tree called the Araucaria Tree also known as the Monkey Puzzle tree and is dense black in colour, which is where the term “Jet black†came from, and here is a very attractive late Victorian Whitby Jet cameo bracelet.
Dating from the 1890's, this style of jewellery was popularised by Queen Victoria who wore only black after the passing of Prince Albert, and here it is set not just as a bracelet, but with a cameo as the central focal point making it a wonderful piece of jewellery to wear all the time.
So comfortable on the wrist, each piece of Whitby jet is strung together on elastic making it a one size fits all bracelet that sits perfectly close to the wrist.
In total there are eleven pieces of Whitby jet and the central cameo of a woman's head in profile, and the facetted pieces measure 2cm wide and the cameo 4.3cm by 3.7cm.
With such a lovely tactile feel to it, this antique Victorian Whitby jet cameo bracelet is just perfect to wear all the time and always look so special.
