Rare early Australian antique cameo brooch of Athena
In Greek mythology, Athena was the daughter of Zeus and was the Goddess of Wisdom, and here is a truly exceptional early Australian cameo brooch depicting Athena. Dating from the 1860's, there are two wonderful features of this brooch. Firstly there is the exceptional quality of the hand carving of Athena, and the closer you get, the more detail you will see which is a true testament to the quality of the carver of this cameo, especially as it was done well over a century ago. More than likely this was hand carved in Italy, the home of all the master carvers of shell cameo and with so much intricate detail, that gets even more impressive the closer you get to it . The cameo itself measures 50.7mm by 42.5mm and will captivate all who see it from near or far. And secondly there is the fabulous mount that it is set into. Made in 15 carat gold, not only is the work typical of early Australian jewellery that is so sought after with the grape designs on each side along with the leaf pattern, but at the top is an emu which stands so proudly. This mount is truly one of the finest early Australian ones that you will ever find and a wonderful and exciting piece. Measuring 73mm by 60mm this is not only so incredibly rare to find, but just as incredibly beautiful and a real treasure not to just admire, but to wear as well. Stock# ES9357 Circa: 1865 $7,250

Magnificent antique gold cased earrings from the Victorian era
Here are a fabulous pair of antique gold cased drop earrings that date from the Victorian era and looks spectacular on the ear and will no doubt always be admired every single time that they are worn. Gold cased jewellery is also known as rolled gold and was first invented in Birmingham England in 1785 and was the process of having a a thick sheet of gold that was then soldered to a sheet of brass then rolled out to a thin sheet that was subsequently used for making jewellery. Being very hard wearing and durable allowed it to also be engraved and this process should not be confused with gold plating which although it can be very built up in thick layers, is not as hard wearing as gold filled. These earrings measure 19.4mm across at the lower section by 48.8mm to the top of the shepherd hooks, and the inside sections are not only of a facetted design, but are also able to move independently from the outer section adding to the allure and charm of them. With such an incredible design to them, these earrings will be suitable for any occasion day or night and always be loved and admired. Stock# ES9427 Circa: 1880 $1,925

Antique diamond engagement ring set with mine cut diamonds
This antique diamond engagement ring not only has all the charm and character of being hand made over 150 years ago, but is set with the earlier mine cut diamonds that are so sought after today. Sometimes these antique mine cut diamonds are also called "cushion cut" diamonds due to the somewhat cushion shape that they have, and they were the first truly brilliant cut diamond and these ones sparkle so beautifully. Antique onyx drop earrings made in the Victorian era
Onyx is a natural material from the same family as agate, chalcedony and chrysoprase, and occurs naturally as dense black with a white “streak” running through the stone. Often this white band is either cut away and not used, or the onyx is dyed a complete black, however when the white is used in a carving, it highlights the beauty of the stone resulting in some wonderful designs such as in these antique drop earrings dating from the Victorian era of the 1880’s. Made in 15 carat gold, each earring is set with three round pieces of naturally banded onyx, with the largest one at the bottom, a medium sized one at the top and a charming small on in the centre set amongst a lovely knot design.
