There is something so unique and special about antique rings, from them being hand made and therefore so individual, to being set with genuine antique cut diamonds, and made in a design that has never gone out of fashion or style and all of these features are evident in this gorgeous antique diamond cluster ring dating from the 1880's. Hand made in 18 carat yellow gold, this ring is set with the gorgeous mine cut diamonds. The forerunner to the European cut diamond, the mine cut diamonds are also called "cushion cut" diamonds thanks to their somewhat squarish cushion shape. In the centre is a mine cut diamond that measures 0.35 carats and is surrounded by eight more mine cut diamonds that come together to total 0.80 carats. The sparkle from these diamonds is wonderful, as is the fact that they were cut by hand 140 years ago. When a ring is hand made, it has all the charm and character of being a one off making this even more special to wear. Measuring 10.6mm in diameter, the ring has the most elegant band with a beautiful ribbed finish to it that feels so sleek on the finger, and there is no doubt that this ring will always be loved and admired. Here is a truly spectacular and rare 18 carat gold antique five stone pink sapphire ring that is breathtaking and will no doubt always be admired. Hand made in the late Victorian period of the 1890's, this ring is set with five natural unheat treated pink sapphires. Firstly about pink sapphires. Both ruby and sapphire come from the same gem family, corundum, and the only difference between the two is colour. When corundum is any colour other than red, it is termed sapphire and when corundum has more chromium as a trace element, this will cause the stone to be more red, and then named ruby. When it is pink, it is hard to differentiate the difference between a ruby and pink sapphire, however most gemmological labs around the world agree that it comes down to the eye and how we see pink compared to red, and the pink in these stones is just amazing and so incredible to see. And then the stones have not undergone any heat treatment at all. For centuries sapphires and rubies have been heat treated to improve their colour and clarity and this is a worldwide accepted and safe practice. It should be made clear that a sapphire or ruby that has undergone some form of heat treatment is still a natural gemstone from the ground and is not a synthetic/man made stone and the treatment is completely stable. However these pink sapphires have not undergone any treatment at all making them even more exciting. The sapphires total 1.48 carats and are all claw set perfectly to allow the maximum amount of light to enter throughout all of the stones and really make them stand out even more. This ring looks truly incredibly on the finger and would suit any finger and occasion including making a superb and very unique antique engagement ring. Measuring 7mm wide at the centre by 17mm across, this antique ring is like no other and will always be loved, admired and cherished. Stock# ES9152 Circa: 1890 $Sold
