Here is such an elegant Art Deco untreated sapphire and diamond ring that was made in France in the 1920's that looks spectacular on any finger and would make such an impressive engagement ring. Sapphires and rubies have been heat treated for centuries to improve their colour and clarity and this is a world wide accepted practice, however it is estimated that only between 1% and 5% of sapphires are good enough to be set into jewellery without being treated. It should be clarified that a sapphire or ruby that has undergone some form of heat treatment is still a natural gemstone from the ground and is not a synthetic/man made stone and the treatment is completely stable. Lately on the market there is a technique of glass filling or lead filling stones which will improve the colour of a natural gemstone, however this treatment is very unstable and the stone may look worse in a few years. The sapphire measures 1.90 carats and the way the ring has been hand made in 18ct gold and platinum shows the detail and thought that went into making this ring by allowing the sapphire to be set into its own bezel and having a fine separation from the border of diamonds. There are a total of twenty two rose cut diamonds that accentuate the sapphire so well, and these diamonds total 0.22 carats and the top of this ring measures 10.9mm across by 14mm and sits perfectly on the finger. Art Deco rings are always so sought after as are untreated sapphires and when the two are put together the result is a ring that is just so stunning and unique. Stock # ES7228 Circa: 1920 $Sold.
