Micromosaic jewellery and art was made using incredibly small pieces of ceramics, glass or pebbles known as tesserae, that arranging the painstakingly over time into incredible works of art, such as these antique micromosaic earrings made in the 19th century.
Set into very elegant 15 carat gold settings that have been beautifully hand engraved, in the centre of each are charming ancient Roman scenes that are such a delight to admire. These are true works of art that look beautiful from a distance and become more and more breathtaking the closer you get to them. The amount on time that would have gone into making these would have no doubt been immense, and showcase the quality and craftsmanship of what could be achieved all those years ago without the aid of any modern tools or equipment.
Each scene measures 19mm in diameter and the earrings themselves measure 39.2mm across by 23.7mm to the top of the shepherd hooks making them sit perfectly under the ear lobe where they will no doubt always be admired and appreciated for their incredible beauty.
These antique micromosaic earrings are just divine and a real testimony to what could be achieved all those years ago.
