Antique pearl and diamond “Toi et Moi” ring made in the early 1900’s
Antique jewellery is often steeped in history and romance, and here this ring in its own subtle way displays both.
This antique ring is what is affectionately called a “Toi et Moi” ring, whose history goes back to Josephine and Napoleon Bonaparte.
The term “Toi et Moi” is French for “You and Me” and is used for a ring with two main stones and this is believed to have started when Napoleon gave Josephine a sapphire and diamond engagement ring in 1776. Since then, this has become a wonderfully romantic design for jewellery that displays love between two people in a gorgeous design that will always be admired.
This ring was handmade in 18 carat yellow gold in the early 1900’s, on one side is a beautiful pure white pearl sitting opposite a European cut diamond measuring 0.42 carats. Claw set to allow the maximum amount of light to enter and dance through the stone, sitting opposite each other, the pearl and diamond truly compliment each other so well.
Then on each band the ring is set with five single cut diamonds that total 0.10 carats and emphasise the beautiful soft curve to the band.
Measuring 9.1mm wide at the centre by 14.8mm across from one end diamond over to the other, this antique ring is as beautiful as it is romantic.
