Antique Pietra Dura brooch/pendant with a locket on the reverse side.
Here is a wonderful and very versatile antique brooch that can not only be worn as a pendant, but also has a locket compartment on the reverse side.
Pietra dura originated during Roman times and is the term given for the inlay technique of using cut and fitted, highly-polished coloured stones to create images in solid walls and floors, furniture as well as jewellery, resulting in some truly spectacular pieces.
This piece here dates from the 1870's and was made in 15 carat gold and uses such incredible colours that is complimented perfectly by the equally gorgeous mount. The mount measures 51.5mm by 40.8 and with the choice to be worn as a brooch or a pendant, plus having the ability to have a photo placed in the reverse to make it even more personal, this is an exception piece of antique jewellery that will always look perfect no matter how you choose to wear it.

Antique arrow brooch set with diamonds and Cupid
There is no other subject in mythology more romantic and sweet than Cupid, and here is the most beautiful antique brooch that depicts Cupid and his arrow.
Made in 18 carat yellow gold in the 1890's, the brooch measures 56.5mm across by 29.5mm and was made in the form of an arrow head in such a beautiful way. Instead of the arrow head being flat and sharp, it has a wonderful soft curve to both sides that softens the look and feel of the brooch. This gives the brooch a much softer and more feminine style to the brooch which is emphasised further by not only the rose cut diamonds, but by the absolutely charming enamel Cupid. With such beautiful soft colours in the enamel, as well as so much detail, the closer you get to admire Cupid, the more it melts your heart and will make you smile.
With the diamonds "connected" by hand engraving giving them a floral look, the diamonds total 0.09 carats and sparkle delightfully in the light.
This is one brooch that from near or far will always make you smile and feel so wonderful when this is being worn.

Antique hardstone cameo pendant that can be worn as a brooch
Cameos are commonly carved from shell and rarely in harder materials as it takes a true master carver to get the detail when carving into harder material and here is a very beautiful antique sardonyx cameo pendant that can easily be worn as a brooch.
Dating from the 1880's, the pendant was made in 15 carat gold and has the most beautiful shape combined with incredible detail that stands out from near or far.
In the centre is a very intricately hand carved cameo made of sardonyx. Sardonyx is a naturally layered material from the quartz family that is naturally layered with white and a soft pink to orange background, that when carved allows the carver to show these colours, and to highlight the form in this case a woman's head in profile. And the quality of carving is just spectacular. The detail is captivating with so much detail in the hair and there is no doubt that this was carved by a master carver.
Measuring 27.1mm across by 40mm or 47.8mm to the top of the bail, when worn as a brooch, the bail just folds down behind the pendant to allow it to sit perfectly as a brooch.
So attractive, this is a wonderful antique piece that no matter how it is worn, will always look so beautiful.

Magnificent large antique agate brooch from the Victorian era
The warm natural earthy colours that come from the agate set into this brooch match so well with the rich golden yellow from its 18 carat yellow gold mount, making this a truly sensational brooch that will always be admired from near or far.
Made in the 1870's, the dimensions of this brooch are so wonderful and large. Measuring 61.9mm across by 57.5mm, not only is the agate and mount eight sided, but the sides all have a wonderful soft concave shape to the them. This not only gives the brooch a more softer look to it, but it would have also increased the complexity of making this brooch well over 100 years ago. Whereas if the agate was carved and polished to having eight straight sides along with the mount, then setting the two together would have been quite easy. Having the curved edges to the agate and mount, would have made this exponentially more difficult to cut and make for the two to be set together, however when looking at the brooch again with this in mind, you really can see that it was worth the effort as the final result is a truly magnificent brooch.
Then to complete the perfection of the brooch, each side of the mount was made with the most elegant and refined scroll design that just finishes the brooch off perfectly.
From every aspect that you look and admire this brooch, it really showcases the quality of jewellery that was made during this time.
