Art Deco opal and diamond necklace and brooch
$24,600.00
What a truly stunning and unique necklace that can be converted to be worn as a brooch, and is a true testament to the jewellery that was made over 100 years ago.
Dating from the Art Deco era of the 1920’s, this amazing piece was made in 18 carat gold and platinum and features a magnificent solid white opal that was hand carved into a flower and measures an impressive 25.5 carats in weight. This opal has been so exquisitely carved and has such an incredible tactile feel to it that truly captures the leaf design.
Then sitting elegantly in the centre is a mine cut diamond that measures 0.27 carats and sparkles so beautifully. Suspended below a double chain design, at the top of this is another solid white opal that measures 0.45 carats, and then the 38.5cm necklace. This necklace along with the two that connect to the main opal at the bottom is in itself so beautiful by being hand made in an alternating combination of gold and platinum showing just how much effort was put into creating this magnificent piece of early 20th Century jewellery.
And then on the reverse side of the main opal, there are two long and secure shepherd hooks that the two chains are connected to which can easily be removed and then worn as a brooch. Yet even more thought was put into this section, as then it is being worn as a necklace, this brooch fitting can be detached to allow the opal to sit lovely and close to the chest.
Complete with its original fitted velvet lined box by Thomas Wordley who were jewellers in London starting in 1889, this incredible example of their work and destined to always be admired each and every time that it is worn as well as becoming a much loved and treasured family heirloom.
