Art Deco diamond ring

$11,200.00

Here is an stunning Art Deco diamond ring that was not only so beautifully designed but also so incredibly well hand made in 18ct yellow gold and platinum that the attention to detail and sparkle coming from the diamonds will have you admiring it every time it is on your finger.

Dating from the 1920’s, this ring is set with one early brilliant cut diamond in the centre with eight European cut diamonds around the edge of the scalloped border and these diamonds including the centre diamond are millgrain set which can be seen as the elegant and fine crimping along the edge of the setting. This technique was very popular in the Art Deco period of the 1920’s to the 1940’s and adds so much additional charm and character.

Then all around the the top section are sixteen more European cut diamonds with an additional one on each side. This top section is made of platinum as it has the advantage over white gold to allow all of this work to be done on a very fine scale all the while retaining its strength and character.

Measuring 23.1mm by 14.2mm, this Art Deco diamond ring sits so well on the finger and is sure to be loved and admired forever.

What is a European cut diamond?

During the mid 19th century, the old European cut came into focus, and was an attempt to change the old mine cut stones into a more perfect round cut. These stones can be considered as the first true round brilliant cut diamonds. The facets from the old miners were kept in their same position, but changed shape to a more round and evenly shaped stone.

The culets became smaller, as it was realised that light could leak out from this point in the stone. The development of the modern brilliant cut occurred in the early part of the 20thcentury with further modifications through the century. Diamond cutters apply the brilliant cut to other shapes, and this very exacting skill continues to enthrall craftsman and enthusiasts alike.
