Rare 1972 18 Carat Gold Omega Constellation F300 ref 198.002

Here is a truly exceptional vintage Omega watch, that not only is in incredible condition, but also has so many unique and special features that it will be truly hard to find another one quite like it in this condition.
This is the Omega Constellation F300 watch dating from 1972 in solid 18 carat gold and fitted with a Sigma dial.
The Omega Constellation range has always been the highest range of all of the Omega models, and this one goes even a step further. Fitted with the Omega calibre 1250 movement, this movement should not be confused with a quartz movement, rather it’s an electric movement.
It works by the removing the traditional balance wheel and escapement, and with the battery powering a tuning fork that vibrates as 300HZ (cycles per second), this in turn through a series of gears and levers, produces a very smooth gliding second hand and a very distinct and unique “humming” sound.
As we are an authorised Omega watch service centre, this has of course been fully serviced by our in-house watchmakers and comes with our twelve-month warranty.
Then there is the dial of this incredible watch. It is what is called a “Sigma dial”.
Looking at the bottom of the dial, on each side of the “T Swiss T”, there is the Greek letter, “sigma”, which can be seen here as this “σ”.
What this subtle, yet very important mark, designates is that the dial including the index markers are in solid gold. Used by a few watch companies in Switzerland from 1970, its main reason was to signify when gold parts were on the dial to subsequently add to both the financial and intrinsic value of a watch. These Sigma dials are so hard to find, and even on some other F300 watches, these won’t have the all-important Sigma letter.
The case measures 43mm in length by 38mm across plus the crown and is fitted on a Hirsch genuine alligator band with an Omega buckle. The case is in exceptional condition, as is the Omega Constellation logo on the back that is so nice and crisp as opposed to models where it has worn. The condition of the watch case is as good as when it was made and combined with the original dial that is in equally as good condition, you have a watch that both looks and feels magnificent on the wrist.
With a movement that is an incredible piece of mechanical engineering as well as incredibly accurate and a wonderful talking point, this Omega Constellation will certainly always get the attention and admiration that it truly deserves.
