15 carat antique garnet necklace with a locket compartment

Here is a magnificent antique necklace that epitomises the mid-Victorian era when this piece was made.

Dating from the 1870's, this truly extraordinary necklace was made in 15 carat gold and has achieved such a wonderful patina that looks even more special on the neck. Set with an oval cabachon cut garnet at the bottom that is highlighted with a double leaf design at the top. And then turning the garnet over reveals a secret locket compartment making this so much more special and romantic. It is small features such as the leaf design and the locket that exemplify the craftsmanship found in antique jewellery.

Highlighted with the chain that goes from the pendant to the drop tassel form on each side that sways beautifully on the neckline and adds even more charm and character.

The beautiful necklace that this is all attached to measures 38cm in length and has such a wonderful tactile feel to it that rolls around the neck perfectly and is set with a clasp that even itself has been exquisitely hand engraved.

From every side and start to finish, this is a truly magnificent antique necklace and for one who is a real connoisseur of fine antique jewellery.
