The history of seals goes back as far as Roman times and was used when after a letter was sealed with wax, the writer would stamp the wax while it was still warm with his or her seal to prevent the wrong person from opening the letter, as once broken, the wax seal could not be used again. Remaining popular all through the Georgian and Victorian periods right up to the Edwardian era, the look of seals are always so unique to one another and look wonderful on a necklace where they are commonly worn today.
And here is a fantastic antique seal from the Georgian era of the early 1800's. Made in 18 carat rose gold, the seal is further highlighted with not only yellow gold, but also the rarer green gold. The use of these other colours will certainly make it such a wonderful talking point as will the age when many discover that it is well over 200 years old, and still looks amazing. The wreath work around the base as well as the design on the main body is so incredible to admire and would look amazing as a pendant.
The base which is set with bloodstone and engraved with "Theres-a" measures 17.4mm by 14mm and 26.8mm to the top plus the link for a chain to pass through or a swivel to connect to.
As fabulous today as when it was made over 200 years ago, this is a fantastic Georgian seal that will remain as amazing as ever,
