Antique mourning rings were a lovely way to remember the passing of a loved one well before the ease of photographs and videos such as today and here is a very sweet and charming antique mourning ring dating from 1871.
Made in 18ct yellow gold, this mourning ring is set with 5 pearls that graduate in size so elegantly on a band that itself graduates in size to compliment the pearls perfectly.
Then there is the very elegant black enamel that goes down the side of the band so stylishly and adds even more charm and character to this ring.
At the widest part at the centre the ring measures 7.1mm wide and tapers down to 2.4mm wide at the end.
Under the top of the ring is a compartment for a lock of hair, and inside the band is engraved, "In memory of James......May 1871 aged 26 years" The section of engraving between James and May have become to worn to make out the engraving between.
Mourning rings are still sought after by collectors and this one is just divine.
