Antique pique brooch from the 1870’s.
There is nothing quite like pique jewellery and one that simply can not be reproduced today thanks to the strict preservation of tortoises.
Pique jewellery was common in the later part of the Georgian era right up to the end of the Victorian era of the 1890’s and was made by inlaying tortoiseshell with gold and silver in such a fine and incredibly intricate design as can be seen here in this pique brooch.
The circular brooch measures 28mm across and comes up into a point that measures 12.1mm and makes it really stand out on any outfit thanks to its height as well as fabulous inlay of gold and silver set into the chocolate brown on the tortoiseshell.
In spectacular condition, this antique pique brooch looks and feels magnificent and is still captivating 140 years after being created.
