Enamel, diamond and pearl locket of Earl Fitzwilliam

Sometimes you come across a piece of jewellery that has such an amazing historical link that when holding it really feels like you are connected to a time gone by, and here is an antique enamel, diamond and pearl locket of just such significance.

To commemorate the christening of William Thomas George Wentworth-Fitzwilliam who was the 10th and final Earl Fitzwilliam in 1904, this locket is not just beautiful with the enamel, pearls and diamond let alone the romantic heart shape, but to be able to trace back a lineage that goes back to 1643 with the birth of the first Earl Fitzwilliam is just extraordinary.
The ranking in British peerage is (for males) King, Prince, Duke, Marquees, Earl, Viscount then a Baron.

The locket was made in 15ct gold and finely enamelled on the front in blue and white as a lovely contrast.
In the centre is a natural pearl surrounded by 11 rose cut diamonds, then at the top are a further 7 rose cut diamonds and another natural pearl.
The heart measures 18mm across by 20mm high, or from the very bottom of the heart to the top of the bail where the chain passes through, this distance measures 35.8mm.

On the back it is expertly hand engraved "William Thomas George Wentworth-Fitzwilliam July 10th 1904" who was born on the 28th May 1904 and died 21st September 1979, so this would have been very likely have been to commemorate his Christening.

This is such a fantastic locket with an incredible history attached and as we say in both our print and on air advertising, this really is a piece of history that you can hold in your hand.
