Exquisite antique aquamarine and garnet brooch from the 1860's

$5,900.00

This antique brooch is so incredibly beautiful to admire from near or far and is a true testament to the quality of jewellery made during the Victorian era.

Dating from the 1860's, the detail and design of this brooch is just exquisite. Measuring 45.9mm across by 48mm plus the chain section, the brooch was made in 18 carat yellow gold and has such a wonderful rich colour to it that exemplifies the scroll work design.

Set with five aquamarines that come together total 6.1 carats and highlighted with six almandine garnets that total 0.48 carats, the almandine garnets have a lighter purple colour to them compared to the more common burgundy-red garnets often found in jewellery.

Not only is the design of this brooch so attractive, but the incredible hand engraving is truly exquisite and once again shows the quality of detail that went into making this brooch an astonishing 160 years ago.

From near or far, this is a truly exceptional brooch that will always be admired and get the admiration that it truly deserves.

When was the Victorian era?

The Victorian era was from 1837 until 1901. Until Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Victoria was the longest ruling monarch in British history. Queen Victoria was influential in not just politics, but also fashion. After Prince Albert died in 1861, Queen Victoria went into a perpetual state of mourning. During this time until her death, she wore only black, and popularised mourning jewellery.
