Amethyst ring in 3 colour gold

Made in the 1930's, in the centre sits a beautiful oval amethyst that measures an impressive 5.15 carats, and has such a beautiful purple hue to it, that alone will stand out.

However it is also the incredible setting that it is in that makes this ring even more amazing. Not only is the design itself so intricate and beautifully made, but it was made in 14 carat white, rose and green gold. Gold can be made in different colours by being alloyed with other metals, such as to produce rose gold, it is made by primarily adding more copper to the gold when being alloyed, and although rarely seen green gold is can be made by adding silver, copper and zinc to the gold, or even in the late 19th Century, by using cadmium. The result is a lovely soft green colour, that in this rings stands out so well against the rose and white gold.
