Collars have been around since ancient Egypt and have never gone out of fashion or style, and here is a very elegant antique collar that dates from the late Victorian era of the 1880's.
Made in 15 carat gold which itself is quite rare to find, 15 carat gold was used in England from 1854 until 1931 making it quite a short run of gold carat. As well as being used in Australia, the colour of 15 carat gold such as this collar, has such a lovely warm rose tone to it that looks fantastic on the neckline.
Measuring 48cm in length will allow this to sit perfectly on the neck, and will look fantastic day or night. The detail in the long links are amazing and measure 6.2mm wide, and the round links connecting them 9.2mm wide.
Fitted with a bolt ring that can be placed at the back, it can also be used to hold a locket or seal at the front for a more dramatic effect, especially for that special occasion in the evening.
This is such a beautiful example of a Victorian locket that will always look magnificent no matter the occasion that it is being worn to.
