Here are a magnificent pair of cannetille earrings that date from the Georgian period of the 1820's. Cannetille work was very popular in the early 1800's and is where very fine gold wire work is soldered onto the piece of jewellery in more of a three dimensional work as opposed to filigree work which was more with piercing the gold or silver.
And in these earrings, the cannetille work is nothing short of exceptional. Made in 18 carat yellow gold, the fine detail is made even more astonishing when you consider that these were made 200 years ago and still look as spectacular and regal as ever.
Measuring a very impressive 79.5mm from the bottom to the top of the hooks, they measure 16.7mm wide at the base, and these earrings will have any woman feeling like royalty when they are being worn.
These are truly amazing and are sure to become a much loved and treasured family heirloom.

Antique Georgian drop earrings
These cannetille antique Georgian drop earrings were made in 18 carat yellow gold in the 1820's.
When was the Georgian era?
The Georgian era spanned the ruling by four kings - King George I, II and III and William IV. This was from 1714 until 1837. Due to William IV only ruling for a short time (1830 until 1837) there is no William era when he was on the throne, and is encompassed in the entire Georgian period.
What is cannetille work?
Cannetille work is very fine wire work found on jewellery that was popular during the Georgian era. Often designed in scroll work that was either flat or cone formed, as well as sometimes taking a natural form such as flowers. Cannetille is quite different to that of filigree work which is more of a pierced design in the gold or silver, whereas cannetille work is much more three dimensional.
