Antique guilloché enamel pendant with a locket on the reverse side
Guilloché is a beautiful technique in which a very precise and repetitive pattern is engraved into an underlying material such as gold or silver and then the enamel applied over the top. After the firing process is completed, it is polished back to a high lustre revealing the engraved pattern below the surface, all of which can be seen here in this magnificent antique pendant.
Made in 15 carat gold in the early 1920’s, the pendant measures 26mm in diameter and has the most wonderful purple colour on the front that leads to a sweet natural pearl in the centre. With a fine white border at the edge of the purple, this is certainly one pendant that will always be admired for its grace and elegance.
Then turning the locket over, reveals not only more guilloché enamel, but a locket section for a photo of a loved one making this so much more special and personal once a photo is placed inside.
Still in superb condition even after a century has passed, this antique locket pendant is sure to become a much treasured and cherished family heirloom.

What is guilloché enamel?
A brief history on guilloché enamel:
Going back to the 18th Century, guilloché is a decorative technique in which a very precise and repetitive pattern is engraved into an underlying material such as gold or silver and then the enamel applied over the top. After the firing process is completed, it is polished back to a high lustre revealing the engraved pattern below the surface. This technique can be seen on jewellery as well as decorative pieces such as pill boxes, opera glasses and carriage clocks. Often seen in high quality French and Swiss pieces over the century, this is an enamelling technique that has always remained so popular and sought after.
