Antique sterling silver Waltham pocket watch made in 1910

There are so many antique pocket watches around, however finding ones in as good as condition as this one is becoming increasingly hard to come by.

Made by Waltham in 1910, the solid sterling silver case which measures 52mm across not only has the engine turned design on the front and back in excellent condition, but the front cover opens so well and has no damage to the hinge. This means that the front cover opens and closes perfectly and still feels so fresh in the palm of your hand. There is nothing quite like the heft of a genuine antique pocket watch such as this, and is a testament to the quality that was put into making this over 100 years ago.

The white enamel dial is free of any cracks or damage and is as easy to read today as when it was made and has traditional black Roman numerals with the sub-seconds counter at the bottom.

Making this so personal and special, the dust cover on the inside that is protecting the movement has been beautifully hand engraved with, "Presented to Robert T Kyle by the employees of the carriage dept of NSW Govt railways as a mark of their esteem on his retirement after 35 years service 8 . 11 .12" It is wonderful to think how highly he was regarded to receive this lovely pocket watch after all those years of service.

Under this cover is the beautiful 15 jewelled movement that has just come back from a full service, runs beautifully and comes with our twelve month warranty.

Perfect for any gift or to add to a collection, when you feel this pocket watch in your hand, you will truly understand why the condition of the case and dial is so important to make it stand out from so many others on the market.

Description

Antique sterling silver Waltham pocket watch made in 1910

This antique Waltham pocket watch is fitted in a solid sterling silver case that is in excellent condition.

A brief history on the Waltham company:

The Waltham Watch Company was formed in 1850 under the name American Horologe Company. Over the years it went through a series of name changes such as the Boston Watch Company (1853) and American Watch Company (1859).  In 1885 it became knows as the American Waltham Watch Company and finally in 1907 it became knows as the Waltham Watch Company (WWCo)

In addition to using grade numbers, Waltham also used many grade names on their watches. These names were often the names of Board members, company investors, or other prominent individuals. The grade name basically designates the model and/or level of finish of the watch. Some of the more popular Waltham named grades were: Appleton Tracy & Co., William Ellery, P. S. Bartlett, Crescent Street, Riverside, Central Park, Premier, Broadway, Royal E. Robbins, Vanguard, Bond Street, Sterling, Royal, Maximus and Colonial .

The regulator is of particular note and was designed by Charles W Fogg called the Fogg Tadpole regulator or Short Tadpole regulator. These regulators are held in such high esteem thanks to their superb accuracy. The regulator is used to adjust the balance wheel’s rate of oscillation in order to improve accuracy of the watch. Several varieties of watch regulators are found in Waltham movements, most of which were patented and often called “Patent Regulators.” The best regulators inside a pocket watch, offer extreme precision while adjusting the rate of oscillation.
