Here is a wonderful piece from the early Victorian era that is still in wonderful condition even after 180 years have passed since it was made.
Made in 18 carat yellow gold in the 1840's, it measures 28.4mm by 27.5mm plus the bail and has the advantage to be able to be worn as a pendant or a brooch.
The incredible detail of the border shows just how incredible the jewellers were all those years ago and what they could produce without any of the modern equipment of today. Set with eight pieces of natural turquoise that is the perfect colour to complement the pendant so well, and adds so much charm to an already very beautiful piece.
Set in the front is woven hair that although some people might find odd to use in jewellery, for centuries this was very common and in this pendant does not signify a mourning piece as there is no black being used such as enamel, and years ago hair jewellery was so prized that there was a time when the price of hair was actually higher than silver.
This is a wonderful piece of early Victorian jewellery that will always be an incredible and fantastic talking point.
