Antique Victorian era micromosaic brooch made in the 1870's

Here is a spectacular example of micro mosaic jewellery that was made in the Victorian era and is so incredible to admire from near or far.

Made in 18 carat yellow gold in the 1870’s, micro mosaic jewellery was made using incredibly small pieces of ceramics, glass or pebbles known as tesserae to create an image or form, and in this case, we have a wonderful Egyptian revival scene to admire. After the completion of the Suez Canal in 1869, and its subsequent “opening up” of the world even more, the art and culture of Egypt once again found its way into European art, with jewellery being no exception.

The enigmatic look on the Pharaoh will take your breath away with its beauty, as will the beautiful and delicate design both around the pharaoh and on each side, top and bottom and finished with the two suspended micro mosaic discs on each side.

The immense time that would have gone into making this brooch over 150 years is astonishing and a true testament to the quality of jewellery from this wonderful bygone era.

Measuring 45.5mm across by 37.5mm, there is no doubt that this brooch will always be loved and cherished, and just like a fine oil painting, will be admired from near or far.
