Art Deco 1920's sapphire and diamond ring

Now here is a ring that will take your breath away and exemplifies just why jewellery of the Art Deco period of the 1920's has never gone out of fashion or style and remains as sought after and popular today as when it was made over a century ago.

This magnificent ring was hand made in France in 18 carat white gold and platinum and is set with one European cut diamond that measures 0.24 carats and is surrounded by a further eight that total 0.40 carats. Not only do these diamonds have all the charm and character of being cut by hand all those years ago, but they are surrounded by nineteen blue sapphires that make a wonderful contrast to the pure white of the platinum top as well as the diamonds. These sapphires total 0.38 carats, and showcase the elegant designs that were created during this wonderful era.

Measuring 13mm in diameter, this ring both looks and sits so well on the finger and will suit any occasion, including making a wonderful and special engagement ring.

When was the Art Deco era?

Like many other era's. the Art Deco era doesn't have an exact start/finish date. However it is generally accepted as being from 1920 until 1940. After this came the Retro period which resulted in larger, bolder designs, a move away from the finer geometric designs of the Art Deco period.

What is a European cut diamond?

During the mid 19th century, the old European cut came into focus. This was an attempt to change the old mine cut stones into a more perfect round cut. These stones can be considered as the first true round brilliant cut diamonds. The facets from the old miners were kept in their same position, but changed shape to a more round and evenly shaped stone.

The culets became smaller, as it was realised that light could leak out from this point in the stone. The development of the modern brilliant cut occurred in the early part of the 20th Century. There were further modifications through the century to develop it further. Diamond cutters apply the brilliant cut to other shapes, and this very exacting skill continues to enthrall craftsman and enthusiasts alike.
