First released in 1951, the Omega Railmaster was designed for railway staff or anyone else who worked near electrical fields, as this can interfere with the timing and mechanics of a watch, and was designed as a robust yet still elegant anti-magnetic watch, and fast forward seventy years, and here is such a great looking Omega Railmaster watch that is so sleek and elegant and pays a wonderful homage to the original.

This is the Omega Railmaster 220.12.40.20.03.001 in stainless steel and fitted with a truly brilliant blue denim-style dial that is complimented by not only the index and numbers on the dial as well as the seconds hand and the word “Railmaster” both in red, but the fabulous blue denim and leather NATO strap that fits so securely and comfortably around the wrist.

Measuring 40mm across plus the Omega screw down crown, the hands and markers are filled with light grey Super-LumiNova, making them so easy to read in low light conditions.

Able to withstand the magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss, the watch is powered by the exceptional Omega Co-Axial calibre 8806 that has a 55 hour power reserve and can be seen via the exhibition window on the reverse side.

This movement by Omega isn’t just chronometer rated, it has the even higher rating of being a Master Chronometer. This means is that this designation actually exceeds and surpasses the still very highly regarded COSC Chronometer rating where the rating is done only to the movement, but further subjecting the watch to more intensive testing by testing the function of the movement  to high magnetic exposure, temperature, power reserve testing and water resistance to name a few.
